The Meia Praia boardwalk in Lagos, Portugal is a recent addition (2023) that allows access to one of the longest beaches in the Algarve, Stroll, run, or bike the 4 km stretch from Lagos to the east end of the beach past Bar Quim.
The boardwalk plays an important role in dune conservation, offering visitors a place to enjoy the beach without disturbing the natural habitat. The boardwalk supports local biodiversity and provides a scenic route for walking, running, and accessing different parts of the beach. Meia Praia is popular for sunbathing, swimming, and watersports, making it a well-loved destination for locals and tourists.
How do I access the boardwalk?
In summer, at the southern end of the main street, a small boat will take you across the channel for €1 – in the low season, you’ll have to cross the walking bridge over to the Marina, then head south past the Lagos Railway Station to the beach and the boardwalk.
The boardwalk can also be accessed at many points along its length. If you have a car, pull into any car park along the M534 (which runs parallel to Meia Praia) and you’ll be able to access the boardwalk. There’s a large dirt car park at Gaivota Branca restaurant – it’s roughly the halfway point of the boardwalk. Leave your car, stroll the boardwalk, or access the beach for a swim.
