For those exploring Lagos in motorhomes, camper vans, and any other vehicle with tents etc, finding the perfect spot to park your motorhome is just as important as choosing where to stay. Whether you’re a seasoned road tripper or a camper van newbie, Lagos offers a handful of fantastic stopovers that let you enjoy the best of the Algarve—with options for all budgets.
Free Motorhome Stopovers – Overnight Allowed
While Lagos is known for its laid-back vibe, it’s worth noting that free motorhome stops can be a mixed bag. Here are a few insider tips if you’re looking to keep costs down:

- Pingo Doce Supermarket
6 designated spots but up to 25 vans have been accommodated here many times. This large supermarket has a wide range of everything you’re likely to want including cheap food. It’s a short walk into the old town and it’s many restaurants. Downside for some is road noise. - Lidl Supermarket
2 designated spaces, in the middle of the carpark, not that well located to be frank. The jury is out on whether overnight stays are allowed. I’d risk it if there you couldn’t get in at Pingo Doce or Aldi. This supermarket is loved by some, but I prefer to shop elsewhere! The central location is ideal - Aldi Supermarket
3 designated spots for larger vehicles, however the signage is poorly located and cars park here regularly. Good for cheap shopping. Very quiet area for an overnight stay. - Camilo Beach (Praia Camilo) Carpark
There are 2 parking areas near Praia do Camilo. Inexplicably, the smaller of the two allows motorhomes, the larger does not. In fact, Lagos had the opportunity to install camper services but not only failed to do so, they put up a sign banning motorhomes and caravans. There are vans parked in these 2 car parks everyday (I walk to Camilo Beach at least 4 times per week) and I’m sure many are parking overnight.
Paid Motorhome Stopovers
- Trinidad Camping, Central Lagos:
Very close to the old town and beaches (Praia Dona Ana is the closest beach). The site is “aging gracefully” but it’s cheap and the natives are friendly. Lots of great local restaurants are nearby and a Spar Supermarket is 200m - Turiscampo Camping & Bungalow Park, Espiche
Five kilometers to the west of Lagos, this modern campsite with spacious and all the facilities motor-homers are looking for during a multi-day stay to visit Lagos, Praia da Luz, Sagres and the smaller towns and villages along the coastline. - Orbitir Camping Park, Praia da Luz
Six kilometers to the west of Lagos on the road to Praia da Luz, this is a large camping ground with a wide range of facilities. Some of the facilities are aging and the pitches are somewhat ramshackle in my opinion. The swimming pool is great.
Other Free Overnight Parking Spots
Lagos, Portugal is a busy place all year road, therefore finding suitable parking can be difficult especially in peak season. So, here are a few more options for you to consider;

- On the Park 4 Night App look for 1 Rua do Jogo da Bola – it’s a dirt carpark on the western edge of Lagos Old Town – Motor-homers tend to park at the rear end of this large carpark. Just be thoughtful about where you park to ensue you don’t block anyone in! Its quiet overnight and safe. Very close to hundreds of restaurants, shopping and tourist attractions. - On the Park 4 Night app look for 21 Rua Fernando Pessoa – it’s a quiet area behind a primary school. There are restaurants in the area and it’s a 12 minute walk into the old city and an 8 minute walk to Intermarche supermarket. Find it here; https://maps.app.goo.gl/sMuiphwtz4m5hH2f9
- On the Park 4 Night App look for 27A Rua das Armacoes de Pesca – another quiet suburban area, a tad further out from the old town (20 minute walk) and a 10 minute walk to Intermache supermarket – I’ve seen up to 10 motorhomes parked here. Find it here; https://maps.app.goo.gl/AXS1uNSxZXvvpazm8
